As a game designer, you know that the art for games is very important. after all, it's the theme of a game and not the mechanics that really sells games. Otherwise, people would stop buying reskinned versions of Monopoly (I don't think I know anyone who actually likes that game) But why does art have to be so expensive?
I will tell you why Art should be expensive.
So there are many things in life that you cannot fake. Being an artist is one of those. Yes yes yes there are artists out there who are hacks like Tomas Kinkaid who are better at marketing than moving a paint brush. Artist as a whole takes years to perfect their skills. We are always working on something that will improve our skills. What you are paying for when it comes to art is all the time we did not get paid while working on a new technique.
Then you have the license. Just because you buy the artwork does not mean you have the right to use it for your games and resell it. I'm thinking some point of having Imp write a blog post about copyright when it comes to art and boardgames/RPGs. I'm sure that she will be far more eloquent on that topic being that she is a copyright lawyer.
So how does a game designer get to use artwork without stealing art from an artist?
but if you are looking for budget artwork feel free to look at our Stock images. At this point, I'm adding new artwork every day so if you don't see something that you like I am sure there will be something soon. If you think that you have an idea od that you would like to see for stock images also contact me because I am always looking for ideas.
